Based on a recent historical event where scientists documented the existence of gravitational waves, which modified contemporary notions of space-time, abraso, the Mobile Center of Intratropical Artistic Research and Affective Practices, decided to imagine a near future where time dilates and slows down. During two weeks, they conducted a study to measure this leisurely time. For this purpose, Juan Pablo and Camilo have made the project “Interferometer: mediation and measurements of slower space-time” a daily exploration to perform some strategies of slowness while following the nuances among natural sunlight and artificial brightness sparkling over windows, streets, and canals of Ghent, Belgium.
Walking around urban landscapes as a methodology, the collective wandered to find reflective surfaces and light traces. They created an emotional cartography displaying a space of mediation and collective learning. As a result, on the 8th of March, they shared the results of this project. In the shape of an audiovisual constellation composed of one photographic atlas with investigation notes, 3 video artworks, and one performative interview, abraso interacted with the public of Parce Art Initiative on daily slowness and laziness. Together, they invited different audiences to reflect on contemporary notions of time and its implications in consumption, overproduction of resources, and the ways of understanding leisure in a technocentric and hypercapitalist world.
